VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Volunteer Requirements

Effective Sept. 1st, 2017, all JRDA member leagues will be required to provide a minimum of one (1) volunteer to work with the JRDA.

All volunteers must:

risk the active status of their league's membership.

 

DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION DEPARTMENT CHAIR

The Diversity and Inclusion Department Chair collaborates with athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers, and leadership to foster diversity, equity and inclusion in JRDA's programs, events, and policies.

Helps ensure that athletes of all backgrounds feel supported within JRDA and are empowered to act as agents of positive change.  Oversees and coordinates relevant professional development for leadership and volunteers and maintains resources to support their work.  Promotes equality of opportunity for leadership positions and player development.  Participates in monthly leadership meetings with Department Chairs and the Board of Directors.

The Diversity and Inclusion Department Chair must have understanding and experience with the scope of the JRDA, knowledge of the broader junior roller derby community (member and nonmember leagues alike), and demonstrated long-term commitment to the development of junior roller derby.

The Diversity and Inclusion Department Chair reports to the JRDA President.

The expected time commitment is 5-10 hours per week.

MEMBERSHIP DEPARTMENT CHAIR

The Membership Department Chair is responsible for recruiting new JRDA member leagues and ensuring members get processed and receive member benefits.  The Membership Department Chair is responsible for ensuring league compliance with membership requirements, and is a primary point of contact for league questions and issues.  The Membership Department Chair also oversees the Regional Coordinators, and works with the Media Department to determine social media pushes, and assists with the Events Department in the planning of events such as JRDA Championships.

The Membership Director reports directly to the Vice President.

The expected time commitment is 5+ hours per week.

GAMES DEPARTMENT CHAIR

The Games Department Chair oversees Games Department committees and committee chairs, creating new committees as needed.  Helps review policies and monitors league compliance. 

The Games Department Chair is ultimately responsible for making sure that all committee obligations are being met, and that emails and other communications from JRDA member leagues are addressed in a timely manner. 

The Games Department Chair works very closely with the Rules Department, collaborating on JRDA policy throughout the season.  The Games Department Chair participates on the JRDA Suspension Panel (discussions, investigations, and written communications with all parties involved in the suspension processes) and on regular JRDA leadership calls (with the BoD, Regional Coordinators, Events Department, etc.). 

The Games Department Chair travels to JRDA tournaments as needed.

The Games Department Chair reports directly to the Senior Vice President.

The expected time commitment is 10+ hours per week.

SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT

The Senior Vice President is an Executive Board position, overseeing three departments and all related committees - the Games Department, the Rules Department, and the Safety Department.  The Senior Vice President also chairs the Suspension Committee.  The Senior Vice President meets with the Board of Directors and with JRDA Leadership monthly, and represents JRDA in meetings with other organizations (both by phone and in person).  In case of the absence of the President for any reason, the Senior Vice President shall perform the duties of the President, and also any other duties as may be required by the Board of Directors.

Familiarity and experience with junior roller derby officiating is extremely helpful.

The expected time commitment is 10+ hours per week.

TREASURER

Tresurer is an Executive Board position.  The Treasurer shall serve as the chief financial officer of the Association and shall have responsibility for the care, custody and safekeeping of the Corporation's funds.  The Treasurer shall be responsible for maintaining the Association's financial books and records of account. The Treasurer shall provide timely reports of income and expenses for events to the Board and shall provide quarterly financial statements to the Board in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) for Nonprofits.  The Treasurer is also responsible for preparing annual budgets and events budgets for the Board's review and to assist the board with strategic planning and the alignment of  the Association's resources in accordance with its strategic plan.

SECRETARY

Secretary is an Executive Board position.  The Secretary coordinates board meetings (distributing agendas, recording minutes, etc.) and maintains records of committee meetings for various JRDA departments.  The Secretary is responsible for organizing and safekeeping significant organizational documents (generally electronically, using Google Drive and other cloud-based systems).  The Secretary also supervises elections and voting for Regional Coordinator and Board positions, and for Member Congress proposals.  The Media Department reports to the Secretary.
 
The Secretary oversees technology,  and is responsible for the web site (content updates, design, and functionality), organization email and network services, SportsEngine functionality, etc.

PARENT REPRESENTATIVE

Parent Representative is a General Board position.  The Parent Representative works with the Regional Coordinator Representative to ensure communications address parental concerns.  The Parent Rep collaborates with the Membership Department to promote league registration, and assists with creating content for the "New Members" portion of the website.  The Parent Rep is expected to attend monthly Board and Leadership meetings, and to communicate regularly with JRDA constituents to ensure a variety of family perspectives are represented in organization decision-making.
